One 19-year-old is dead and six others are hurt after a shooting during a party in Troup County. FOX 5 spoke to neighbors and a relative of some of the victims to hear what led to the gunfire.

LAGRANGE, Ga. - A teenager was killed during a shooting early Sunday in LaGrange that put several other people in the hospital.

What we know:

Police say at around 1 a.m. June 8, shots were fired on Seminary Street in LaGrange.

Seven people had to be rushed to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, but one of them didn't make it.

Javeon Dukes, 19, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

So far, police have confirmed some of the victims have already been treated and released. It's not clear how many more remain in the hospital or the severity of their injuries.

This is an ongoing criminal investigation.

What they're saying:

Neighbors tell FOX 5 that they heard the sound of gunfire erupting on the street overnight.

"It's usually quiet over here," neighbor Viriginia Durhan said. "I don't have no problems."

Shant Dukes, the cousin of the 19-year-old victim, said that other relatives are being treated for injuries after the shooting.   

"It was a party - a backyard party - and they shot into a crowd of kids," she said. "It was at my cousin's house around the corner and there were gunshots. One of my cousins was pronounced dead and one in critical condition and a couple females got shot."

Dukes called for the community to stop the violence.

"It's sad. It's pitiful. People need to sit down and get they childrens and make them sit down and stop all this killing," she said. They do all this killing and shooting down here and nothing's done about it. The police don't do nothing about it. The mamas hide and lie about it. They need to get they kids and sit down."

What we don't know:

Police have not released any information on potential suspects or a motive for the shooting.
