Deadly inmate altercation at Bibb County Jail; four others injured

Authorities are investigating an aggravated assault at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center that left one inmate dead and four others injured following a violent altercation on Wednesday.

What we know:

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the incident involved multiple inmates. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The inmate who died has been identified as 22-year-old Breele Jahiem Johnson. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by medical staff. His next of kin has been notified.

Two other inmates, 40-year-old Willie James Haugabrook III and 19-year-old Brandon Carnell Willis, were also transported to the hospital and are listed in stable condition.

Inmates Stacey Motez Mathews, 22, and Isaiah Joshua Bailey, 22, sustained injuries but were treated by jail medical staff and did not require hospitalization.

What we don't know:

Authorities have not released details on what sparked the altercation or how many individuals were involved.
