Weather alert: Heat Advisory issued for multiple counties in North Georgia

To say it is hot, it could be an understatement. The FOX 5 Storm Team is tracking a Heat Advisory across North Georgia with heat indexes feeling above 100 degrees.
ATLANTA - A Heat Advisory was issued by the National Weather Service in Atlanta at 12:58 p.m. June 23. It is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25.
The Heat Advisory is in effect for the following counties: Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Butts, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dade, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Gordon, Greene, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Jackson, Jasper, Lamar, Madison, Meriwether, Morgan, Murray, Newton, North Fulton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Paulding, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Putnam, Rockdale, South Fulton, Spalding, Troup, Upson, Walker, Walton, and Whitfield.

Sunday was the warmest day of the year so far, hitting 95 degrees--but the week is going to get even hotter.
What we know:
Areas around the metro will feel like 100 degrees on Tuesday, according to the FOX 5 Storm Team.
At 6 p.m. Tuesday, temperatures will still be near 97 degrees in the metro, feeling even warmer due to humidity.
Wednesday is expected to be even hotter, with a forecast high of 98 degrees.
The threat of afternoon and evening thunderstorms returns by the end of the week, but that will bring cooler temperatures back into the lower 90s.

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are both possible with higher temperatures, especially for children and seniors.
To help your body adjust to the extreme heat, experts recommend drinking plenty of water and limiting time outdoors.
Frontline Response is opening a cooling center on Gresham Road in Atlantato help those experiencing homelessness.
Additionally, MUST Ministries Hope House on Bells Ferry Road in Marietta will serve as a cooling center to help people beat the summer heat. They will be open Monday through Friday.

Cooling centers open in metro Atlanta

Because of the heat, multiple cooling centers have opened:
Atlanta
The city of Atlanta will be opening a cooling center as temperatures begin to rise across the city. The center will open Monday, June 23, from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. through Tuesday, June 24 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cooling center will be located at Selena S. Butler Park, located at 98 William Holmes Borders Senior Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30312. Bottled water will be provided to residents while in the cooling center.
DeKalb County
DeKalb County is opening cooling centers on Tuesday, June 24 and Wednesday, June 25. A room in each available recreation center will be designated as a cooling center, and water fountains will be accessible. Recreation center pools will be open and free to the public from 2 p.m. until closing each day.
Henry County
On Tuesday, June 24, and Wednesday, June 25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., visit the cooling station at Red Hawk Park. Fans, plenty of shade, and water stations will be available to help you stay refreshed and safe. It is located at Red Hawk Park, located at 143 Henry Parkway, McDonough, Ga. 30253
